DIMITRI XENAKIS was born in 1964, in Levallois Perret (France).
He actually lives near Paris, in a former factory, transformed in to
a
loft and studio.
He is at the same time a site-specific artist, a sculptor and
a
photographer.
His work is deeply involved in the natural and urban landscapes.
Dimitri designs open-air and environmental installations, gardens,
light-installations. He uses both natural and synthetic materials
and regularly collaborates with the artist and light designer
Maro Avrabou.

"Our European landscapes are the result of a long standing collaboration between man and nature.
They have been shaped in this way since a distant past.
The "environment" is a concept that belongs to nobody in particular, but defines a wealth of organic,
historic and social elements.
My work aims to interrogate the land, to analyse it and to observe it from a new viewpoint.
I like to work in places with no artistic role, with a vision that is poetic, analytical and utopian.
When I discover a place, I ask myself a simple question: What is this place? What am I observing?
I also ask myself: What processes have led to the creation of this place? What series of actions is it
a result of?
I am interested in its morphology, it's vegetation, its light, its form, its social use. I listen to the information
I'm given and sometimes I stop passers by and ask them questions. I choose from all these elements
the ones that will bring inspiration to the project.
Every project is unique." Dimitri Xenakis 2011.
